The Columbus Vulcan Riders, Chapter 1-32, are pleased to host the 2018 Vulcan Riders Association East Rally July 10-12, 2018 in beautiful Athens, Ohio. Located in southeastern Ohio, Athens is centrally located to some of the most thrilling roads in the state, offering stunning views and technically challenging rides. And there are plenty of options for those wanting to just kick back and relax, too.

 

Accommodations

Rally central will be at The Ohio University Inn & Conference Center. OU Inn offers newly renovated rooms at reasonable rates. Rooms are available with two double beds, two queen beds or one king sized bed, each will be specially priced at $99 per night, plus tax. Amenities include WiFi, pool, 24 hour fitness center, refrigerators in all rooms, full service restaurant and a tavern. The Inn even provides an area for washing motorcycles complete with soap and drying cloths. Additionally, The Ohio University Inn features 5,000 square feet of meeting space as well as a beautifully landscaped patio area that will be ideal for socializing.

If we fill up all the available rooms we have blocks of 10 rooms available at each of the following Baymont Inn, Hampton Inn and Fairfield Inn. All are within 5 miles of Rally Central. They will have 2 queen bed and King bed rooms available at all three. Rate will be $109 plus tax per night. You can call (740) 589-5839 and tell them you are with the Vulcan Group.

There are a few others nearby, Hometown Inn (740) 594-2294 and Highlander Motel (740) 593-6449. These are also within a few miles of the OU Inn but will not have coffee or breakfast in the mornings.

For those preferring to camp, there are two campgrounds nearby.

Rides

Located in the Appalachian foothills, southeastern Ohio is known for some great roads for motorcycle enthusiasts. Rally central is centrally located to a group of routes known as Ohio's Windy 9, boasting 1000 miles of curves and stunning views. There is something for everyone with route names like Rim of the World, Zaleski Zipper, Black Diamond Run and The Triple Nickel.

 

  

Rim of the World (87 miles)

Up, up and away to the top of Ohio's Windy 9 and set your gaze upon the "Rim of the World" along the famous Route 78. Wayne National Forest, Burr Oak State Park, and the Stockport Mill highlight one of America's most popular rides! Don't forget to check out the last hand-operated lock in the United States at the Stockport Lock and Dam.

Zaleski Zipper (51 miles)

"The Zipper" boasts unique versatility and a perfect snapshot of the true Ohio's Windy 9 riding experience. This route has been strategically designed to make the most of a "short time to kill" or an all-day, leisurely-paced excursion. Looking for a quick, out and back? Would you rather explore Lake Hope State Park, Zaleski State Forest, and a stop along the Underground Railroad in the village of Albany? Maybe find yourself somewhere in between? The choice is yours!

Black Diamond Run (101 miles)

Celebrate the Hocking Valley's coal heritage with a tour through the Little Cities of Black Diamonds. Turn of the century upstart mining towns shimmer along this jewel of a ride. Toss in the Wayne National Forest and Nelsonville's Historic Square for a most unforgettable Ohio's Windy 9 run.

Triple Nickel (62 miles)

An amusement park for experienced motorcyclists, Route 555 takes you along the crests of rolling hills with lots of challenging twisties.

 

Attractions

With so many great rides available, it is unlikely anyone will struggle to find something to do. However, sometimes it is nice to hop off the bike for a while to rest, relax and experience some of the nearby attractions.
